Bringing Historic Stained Glass Back to Life at Tetley Hall, Leeds

​We have recently had the pleasure of restoring a set of three stained glass panels featuring some beautiful glass painting. This set has been removed from Tetley Hall in Leeds, a former halls of residence for Leeds University.

Each of the windows showcases a central painted piece depicting different Aesop’s fables; The Fox And The Crow, The Crow And The Pitcher and The Frogs Who Desired A King.

As part of our restoration, we recreated one of the painted pieces due to it being broken. This process required many layers of kiln fired glass paints, starting with the line work followed by layers of shading and finished off with some silver stain to add the yellow hue. As you can see from our pictures it is a painstaking process but we believe you can hardly tell the difference now!

Once all the panels had been repaired, and cleaned, they were then encapsulated to help further their longevity, protecting them for many years to come. We are currently undertaking more restoration work for this project, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.
