50th Anniversary Window - 2009
The Children of Dovers Green School in Surrey helped to design their own stained glass window to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school.
"I designed the new window with help from the year 2 children." explained Andrew Seddon, Stained Glass Artist. "We worked together to come up with ideas and stained glass designs to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school. The result is a stunningly beautiful and colourful design with a bold rainbow, flowers, sun and even a helicopter. The head teacher, class teacher and children were all delighted with the window which I encapsulated into triple glazed unit made from toughened glass and fitted into the space above the main door to the large dinning hall in the school. This type of school project is a real joy for me. To help the children to use their great ideas to come up with the design for their own window is just fantastic. I also showed the children how to make a small stained glass window of their own by using plexiglass, coloured film and strip lead to make up their design. The school put the finished windows on display in the windows of the hall along with a display of the art project. The Head Teacher, Sue Hillman, was very complimentary about the window and the whole project saying that she would recommend me to anyone who asked. Very kind, thank you all at Dovers Green School! "

Woodland Creatures Window - 2012
I was lucky enough to carry out another school project with the children at Dovers Green school in 2012. Myself and my daughter, Bethany travelled down to Surrey from the Studio in Bolton and spent a day in the school. Firstly, I gave a small talk and a demonstration to the children in the school hall about how stained glass is made and cut. Then the children were able to go back to their classes and have a go themselves. They had a great time making their own small stained glass windows using coloured film. Myself and Beth loved interacting with the children and helping them to complete their windows. The children also drew their own designs, which were used in the finished stained glass window. The theme for this window was 'Woodland Creatures' as all of the classes in the school are named after a different animal. The school also has an extensive outside learning environment, which provides opportunities for children to play and learn. This includes a wooded area where their Forest School takes place and all the children access this outside classroom every week. The window emphasises these important aspects of the school and it's ethos. We had a great time completing this project and it was a pleasure to work at Dovers Green School once again. |
Ladybird Window - 2015
In 2015, we were invited back to Dovers Green School for the third time to run another exciting school project. This time we were asked to work with the year 1 children during their Environmental week. The two classes were shown demonstrations of stained glass cutting and a talk was given about what stained glass is and how it's made. The children then completed a workshop which gave them the opportunity to make their own stained glass window and they produced drawings which the new stained glass window was based upon. The finished window depicted blue, yellow and red ladybirds, as it represented the schools reception classes. Upon completion the window was fitted above the doors to their open plan reception classes.
