Mr Thomas's Chop house is a grade II listed building located on Cross Street, Manchester. The building was given the listed status by English heritage due to its historical significance to the city and the excellence of it's architecture. The property was originally a Georgian Town House, but in 1870, Mr Thomas Studd, who gave his name to the building, opened the premises as a restaurant and public house. The chophouse refers to the British institution that dates back to the 16th century when commercial trading first began. It was originally a place where businessmen conducted their affairs over dinner. In 1901, the original premises was rebuilt and extended, this project was run by the architect Robert Walker. The building has a cast iron frame, which was one of the first of it's type in Manchester. The outside walls are a mixture of Accrington brick and decorative terracotta blocks. The interior remains to this day almost completely original. |
Dukinfield Town Hall is located in Greater Manchester. It was built in the late 1890's in the Domestic Gothic style. It opened it's doors on 15th June, 1901 and cost £15,000 to build. The plans were constructed by J. Eaton and Sons of Ashton. The clock in the hall was made by J R Joyce of Whitchurch, which was established in 1690 and is thought to be the oldest clock making business in the world. At present, the town hall is also used as a leisure centre and a register office. We have repaired and restored many of the stained glass windows at Dukinfield Town Hall, predominantly in the front doors and entryway. Information sourced from Tameside.gov.uk |
