Sacred Heart RC School, Islington
June, 2014
At Sacred Heart School artist Andrew Seddon spent a day working with two year 2 classes to inspire them to make their own stained glass craft windows and to design ideas for the large stained glass window for the school hall representing the school, it's ethos and values.
Here is some feedback from the school:
John Lane - Headteacher
"Not only does our new stained glass window look amazing but it shows our schools vision, values, ethos and aims in a colourful and meaningful way. As well as very much enjoying the work they did with Andrew our Year 2 pupils are rightly proud of their fantastic efforts".
Alice Grogan - Y2 Classteacher
Andrew grasped the children’s attention immediately through his knowledge and enthusiasm about stained glass. The designs he showed the children were beautiful and the children were keen and eager to design their own intricate windows as a result. Andrew was approachable and friendly offering tips and advice to create the best designs. The children were very engaged and enthusiastic about the process and the hands on approach meant that all children felt like they were not only contributing their ideas for their own stained glass but for the window design for the hall too. By taking the ideas of the children combined with our school ethos; the children had first-hand experience of the process for the school design making it extra special and significant to them.

"My daughter was so excited about the stained glass window she designed at school. She was fascinated to see her design turn into part of the school's new stained glass window. I am so pleased that she was part of this wonderfully creative process."

Y2 children
Hannah L: Thank you Andrew for coming to our school. My favourite part was designing our own windows even though they weren’t real windows. I also think you did a very good job on our stained glass in the hall, it looks beautiful, it must have taken you a long time to do that, so well done.
Michael: I really like the huge stained glass window in the hall. I like the parts that are about Sacred Heart like the 5 keys to success. Thank you Andrew.
Tiffany: I really liked looking at the real stained glass windows because they were really colourful. I like our big stained glass window in our assembly hall because it shows everything that we do at school and what is important. I like that my design is on it too.
Malakai: My favourite part was designing our stained glass windows with the bendy lead. It looked really good when they were all finished and it makes our classroom brighter now they are up. I think stained glass is beautiful.
