A surprise for Devonshire Road Primary School, Bolton.

It’s back to school week! And we had a wonderful surprise in store for the pupils and staff at Devonshire Road Primary School. The new stained glass window has been fitted just in time for their first day back after the Summer Holidays. Take a look at the stained glass window and some of the children’s drawings, which inspired the design below.

​We were contacted back in 2019 to collaborate with the students and staff to create a new stained glass window that reflects the school ethos:

​“Be kind,
Be curious,
​Be the best
you can be.”

Each class learned about the traditional craft of stained glass and even created their own small “stained glass” piece. They were asked to draw their ideas for the new window and we had so many wonderful drawings to choose from. Beth, our designer composed the design based on the artwork and our talented craftspeople, Katie and Tamsin brought it to life.

We used a variety of techniques, from traditional hand cut glass and lead came, etching, glass painting and the more modern method of coloured film and adhesive strip lead. We tried to emulate the childrens’ drawing styles and translate them into glass.

As you can imagine the window has been long awaited, due to delays with Covid and school closures. So all involved were glad to see the finished result!
